Katseye: K-Pop Group's Viral Success Drives Retail Growth
In 2024, six young women – Sophia, Lara, Manon, Daniela, Megan, and Yoonchae – gained global fame as members of the pop group Katseye after winning Netflix’s The Debut: Dream Academy, beating 100,000 contestants.
A Unique Cross-Market Model
Katseye was formed through a partnership between South Korean music powerhouse Hybe and American record label Geffen Records, pioneering a model that combined Korea’s idol bootcamp infrastructure with Western pop production. The group’s diverse members – from the US, Switzerland, the Philippines, and South Korea – added to their appeal.

Rapid Rise to Recognition
The group quickly garnered attention, appearing on the covers of publications like i-D, Teen Vogue, and InStyle, and achieving Billboard chart placements and two Grammy nominations. Brands such as Fendi, Pandora, Lush, and Glossier sought collaborations.

Viral Marketing Campaign Boosts Gap Sales
A 2025 Gap campaign featuring Katseye dancing in low-rise denim to Kelis’s “Milkshake” became a massive success, generating eight billion media impressions and over 500 million cross-platform views. This led to double-digit growth in Gap’s denim category and a 7% increase in comparable sales during Q3 2025.
Further Collaborations
Katseye attended Coach’s Spring 2025 show and collaborated with Lush, releasing a limited-edition bath bomb and soaps. Fabiola Torres, Gap’s global CMO, noted that fan engagement drove traffic to stores, with customers eager to purchase the products featured in the group’s campaigns.
