What is Blush Tailoring?

Blush tailoring involves mixing your favorite blush with a small amount of foundation or concealer to create a shade perfectly matched to your complexion. This method, which has been practiced by makeup artists for years, aims to seamlessly integrate the blush into your skin, avoiding a harsh or unnatural appearance.

How the Technique Works

According to Siard, the process begins with applying more blush than you typically would to your hand. Then, a tiny amount of your preferred foundation or concealer is added and mixed thoroughly. “You’re basically adding your own skin tone and undertone into the blush, which creates a shade that feels more customized to you,” Siard explains. Celebrity makeup artist Kirin Bhatty emphasizes the technique’s flattering effect, stating it’s “a chicer way to approach blush; it’s hint [of color] and very flattering since your own skin tone is mixed right in, making it feel more natural.”

Tips for Success

Makeup artist Misha Shahzada advises using liquid formulations for ease of blending. Consistency in product types – using a cream blush with a cream foundation, or a liquid blush with a liquid foundation – is crucial to prevent patchy results. The key is to blend the color into the skin as you normally would, often using a pressing motion with a brush to ensure the blush integrates seamlessly.
