Black Beauty Roster Show Highlights Growth for Black-Owned Brands
The Black Beauty Roster (BBR) hosted its first consumer and industry event in West Chelsea, New York, on Tuesday, drawing over 1,100 attendees including content creators, industry professionals, and Beauty enthusiasts.
Event Focused on Education and Access
The sold-out event featured brand activations, panels, and demonstrations, offering attendees opportunities for shade matching, artistry demos, and gifting. Sponsors included Ulta Beauty, SalonCentric, Fenty Beauty, Nars, Armani Beauty, and Oribe.

BBR’s Mission and Growth
Launched in 2020 amid increased attention on racial justice, BBR aims to provide a platform for growth for Black-owned beauty brands. The organization connects talent with brands and hosts events like the BBR Beauty Summit and Creator Summit, focusing on education, advocacy, and sustainable inclusion.

Founder’s Perspective
"In 2020, the industry was responding to an important cultural moment, but it lacked intentionality," says BBR founder Maude Okrah Hunter. "For BBR, it’s about building systems that create lasting opportunities and deliver better outcomes."
Bridging the Gap
The BBR Beauty Show was created to bridge the gap between talent, brands, and consumers, offering a destination for education, discovery, networking, and commerce. Brands sought authentic connections with creators, and the event validated this vision.
Industry Commitment
"Real change in the beauty industry needs to come from within," says Oribe director of global education Ke’Ala Kamulu. "To Oribe, that means visibility, education, and access to opportunities need to be in sync."
